Must read

In a late-night operation on 17 December 2025, Jinja Road police, working together with local defence units, conducted a targeted crackdown in Kinawataka, Nakawa Division, specifically in the Kago and Katogo areas of Mbuya I Parish. The operation, aimed at curbing crime and ensuring community safety, came after reports of increased criminal activity in the neighborhood.

During the operation, nine male suspects were arrested from areas identified as crime black spots. These locations had a reputation for harboring individuals involved in illegal activities, including drug abuse and robbery, posing a significant threat to residents’ safety.

The suspects were charged with public nuisance and have been detained at Jinja Road Police Station, where they await prosecution. Police officials stated that their swift action was crucial to disrupting criminal networks before they could cause further harm.

According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyre, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the operation was successful and demonstrated the commitment of law enforcement to maintaining peace and order in the city’s communities.

Residents in Kinawataka expressed relief following the arrests, noting that crime had been a growing concern in recent months. Many praised the police for their proactive approach and urged continued vigilance to ensure the neighborhood remains safe for families.

The operation also highlights the growing collaboration between police and local defence units. By working closely with community structures, law enforcement aims to respond swiftly to criminal activity and prevent crimes before they escalate.

Police emphasized that such disruptive operations would continue across Kampala, targeting known crime hotspots to reduce drug abuse, robbery, and other public nuisances that endanger citizens’ safety.

This recent crackdown sends a clear message that criminal behavior will not be tolerated. Law enforcement encourages residents to remain alert, report suspicious activity, and cooperate with authorities to help create safer communities throughout Kampala.
