Police, Community Help Recover Stolen Baby in Kiboga

Must read

Police, in collaboration with local community members, have successfully recovered a four-month-old baby who had been stolen from her parents in Kiboga District. The incident took place on December 20th, 2025, when the baby, identified as Kemigisha Anita, was taken by a stranger under suspicious circumstances.

The parents of Kemigisha Anita, members of the Altezza charity group, were distributing charitable goods to vulnerable people in Kyeyagalire village within Nkandwa parish. While the mother was busy attending to the charity work, a woman approached her, asking for help with the baby. However, the mother grew suspicious of the stranger’s intentions. Instead of handing the baby directly to the woman, she decided to pass her baby to a trusted friend, Niragire Delphina.

Unfortunately, the stranger convinced Delphina to hand over the baby, despite the lack of consent from the mother. As soon as the stranger took possession of the baby, she quickly disappeared, sparking panic within the community.

Once the baby was reported missing, the alarm spread quickly. The father, Arineitwe Denis, rushed to Nkandwa Police Station to report the crime, triggering a swift response from both the police and the community. A search was immediately organized to track down the thief and recover the stolen child.

In a remarkable turn of events, the local catechists of Nkandwa Catholic Parish played a crucial role in the investigation. Led by Brother Lulangwa Andrew, the catechists noticed a woman acting suspiciously while carrying a baby. After questioning her, they found her responses to be inconsistent and unable to explain where she had gotten the child from.

Upon further questioning, it became clear that the woman was the thief. The catechists promptly apprehended her and handed her over to the police. The suspect was later identified as Nalubega Catherine, a 19-year-old woman from Kiwala-Kyeyagalire village in Nkandwa Parish, Kiboga District.

Thanks to the vigilance and swift actions of the community and local religious leaders, the baby was safely returned to her parents in good health. The recovery of Kemigisha Anita has been hailed as a success, demonstrating the power of community involvement in ensuring the safety of children.

The police have since taken the necessary legal actions against Nalubega Catherine, and the investigation is ongoing. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of staying alert and working together as a community to protect the most vulnerable.
