High Court Orders NUP’s Musisi to Respond to Election Petition

Must read

Kira Municipality’s political scene is far from settled. The recent drama comes after NRM’s Daniel Kanaura, who lost the parliamentary race, filed a petition challenging the victory of his main opponent, NUP’s George Musisi. Musisi was declared the winner of the MP seat in the January general elections.

According to documents obtained by Spy Reports, the Electoral Commission officially received Kanaura’s petition today, 2nd April, at the High Court. The court has directed Hon. Musisi to file a response within 10 days from the day after the petition is served. The order further warned that if Musisi fails to respond within this period, Kanaura will be allowed to proceed with the petition uncontested.

In the January elections, the NRM party reportedly secured a commanding 71% of votes in the area, with NUP coming in second. Despite this, the election dispute signals that Kira Municipality’s political contest remains highly competitive and closely watched.
