Uganda mourns the passing of Ambassador Kweronda Ruhemba, a distinguished politician, diplomat, and dedicated public servant whose life was defined by service to his country. From humble beginnings in Ntungamo District to representing Uganda on the world stage, Ruhemba’s journey reflects a remarkable story of commitment, intelligence, and patriotism.
After graduating from Makerere University, one of Uganda’s premier institutions, Ruhemba began his career at the Bank of Uganda, where he developed expertise in finance and economic management. His skills and dedication soon led him to government service, working within the Ministry of Planning before rising to the position of Cabinet Minister, focusing on economic monitoring and national development.
A pivotal moment in his career was his role in Uganda’s Constituent Assembly, which approved the 1995 Constitution. His involvement in shaping the country’s legal framework demonstrated his unwavering commitment to building a stable and prosperous Uganda.
Ruhemba later transitioned to diplomacy, serving as Uganda’s Ambassador to Switzerland and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva between 2001 and 2005. In these roles, he strengthened Uganda’s international presence, participated in global development and technology summits, and helped foster strong relationships with other nations and multilateral organizations.
Throughout his career, Ruhemba was known for his wisdom, integrity, and loyalty to Uganda. He served not for personal glory but to advance the nation’s interests, leaving a lasting impact on both domestic policy and international diplomacy.
After years of distinguished service, Ambassador Ruhemba returned to his village in Ntungamo District in 2013 following a stroke. Even in retirement, he remained a respected figure whose guidance and experience were valued by many.
His passing marks a significant loss for Uganda, not only for his family but also for the nation that benefited from his decades of dedicated public service. Leaders, colleagues, and citizens alike remember him as a man who embodied dedication, vision, and selfless leadership.
Ambassador Kweronda Ruhemba’s life is a testament to the power of service, the importance of integrity, and the enduring value of contributing to the greater good. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations of Ugandans.
