The Uganda Prisons Service has announced a major reshuffle involving promotions, appointments, transfers, and leave for several senior officers across the country.
In a press release dated 24 June 2026, the Uganda Prisons Service confirmed the promotion of 258 senior officers, ranging from Assistant Superintendent of Prisons to Assistant Commissioner of Prisons. The move, according to the service, is aimed at improving professionalism and strengthening service delivery.
The promoted officers include 20 Assistant Commissioners, 27 Senior Superintendents, 34 Superintendents, 134 Senior Assistant Superintendents, and 43 Assistant Superintendents. In addition to promotions, several officers have been given new appointments and others transferred to different stations to improve operational efficiency.
The reshuffle also includes officers proceeding on leave and others placed on accumulated leave pending review by the Prisons Authority. The Commissioner General congratulated the promoted officers and urged all personnel to maintain discipline, professionalism, and commitment as the changes take immediate effect.
