Police in East Kyoga Region have made major progress in investigating a shocking robbery and murder that occurred in Soroti City. The incident, which took place on April 3, 2026, at around 4:40 a.m., saw 36-year-old businesswoman and mobile money operator Kokunda Patricia shot and killed near Goalman Supermarket along Station Road. The attackers stole her handbag containing cash and other valuables before fleeing the scene.
Following the incident, police responded quickly and began intelligence-led operations across Soroti, Amuria, Kalaki, and Abim Districts. Initially, four suspects were arrested, but further investigations have now led to a total of eleven people being taken into custody. Among those arrested are Epeu Simon, who allegedly pulled the victim from her vehicle, and Emenyu David, believed to have fired the fatal shots. Other key suspects include Okello Emmanuel and Eyamu Rashid, described as planners of the robbery, as well as individuals suspected of supplying ammunition and assisting in the crime.
During the operations, police recovered crucial evidence that will help build the case. This includes a rifle thought to have been used in the shooting, ammunition, clothing worn during the attack, a red motorcycle without registration numbers, and the Tecno Canon phone of the deceased. A total of UGX 10.5 million has also been recovered out of the UGX 28 million believed to have been stolen.
Authorities continue to work tirelessly to track down the remaining suspects and uncover the full network behind this organized robbery. The public has been urged to remain vigilant and share any credible information with the nearest police station to assist in bringing all those responsible to justice.
ACP Kituuma Rusoke, speaking on behalf of the police, emphasized the importance of community support in solving such crimes and ensuring safety across the region.
