The nation is in mourning after the sudden passing of Hon. Hellen Nakimuli, the Woman Member of Parliament for Kalangala District. As the country prepares to say its final goodbyes, the family and government have released the funeral programme to honor her life and legacy. This week, Ugandans will come together to commemorate the extraordinary service of a leader who dedicated her life to the betterment of her people.
A Detailed Send-Off Schedule
The funeral programme begins on Monday, 20th April 2026, with the commencement of rites. The cortege will depart for Kalangala via Nakiwogo, Entebbe, at 14:00 hrs. The journey marks the start of a series of commemorative events in honor of Hon. Nakimuli, who served her community with unwavering commitment and passion.
On Tuesday, 21st April, Kalangala District will hold local government honors. A special district council session will be held, alongside a public viewing of her body, allowing the people of Kalangala to pay their respects to the leader who worked tirelessly to represent them, especially the island communities.
Parliament and Party Pay Tribute
Wednesday, 22nd April, is a day for parliamentary tribute and a vigil. Hon. Nakimuli’s body will lie in state at Parliament, where fellow leaders, friends, and citizens will gather to celebrate her life and dedication to service. The National Unity Platform (NUP), the political party to which Hon. Nakimuli belonged, will also hold a tribute ceremony at its headquarters. A vigil will take place at the family residence in Namugona, bringing together her loved ones and supporters to remember her with reverence.
Final Interment and Requiem Service
The final part of the funeral programme will take place on Thursday, 23rd April 2026. A requiem mass will be celebrated at Namugona Orthodox Church, followed by Hon. Nakimuli’s interment in Luweero District. This marks the conclusion of a week of tributes to a leader who was loved by her people and respected by her peers.
