The Lira City Clerk has been directed to interdict City Statistician, Mr. Denis Okello Ayini, pending the outcome of an ongoing court case filed against him by the Inspectorate of Government (IG).
The Inspectorate of Government has already arraigned Mr. Ayini before the Chief Magistrate’s Court under Criminal Case No. 407/2026, where he faces charges of uttering forged documents, contrary to sections 328 and 324 of the Penal Code Act.
According to the IG statement dated 22nd June 2026, the interdiction is based on constitutional and legal provisions that allow the Inspector General to issue necessary directives during investigations or court proceedings where public interest is involved.
The statement further notes that while the case is still before court, it is in the public interest that the accused official be stopped from performing the duties of his office until the matter is resolved.
Authorities have not given additional comments beyond the written directive, and the case is expected to proceed in court as investigations continue.
