Police in Kampala are set to arraign several suspects accused of being part of a gang linked to a series of aggravated robberies, attempted robberies and attempted murders across the Kampala Metropolitan Area.
The suspects are alleged to have used motorcycles and pangas while attacking their victims in different parts of the city. Investigations by the Kampala Metropolitan Police have linked the group to several robbery incidents in which large sums of money and valuable property were stolen.
Among the cases being investigated is the alleged theft of Shs25.8 million from a fuel station manager along the Kasubi-Makerere-Kikoni Road on August 11, 2026. The suspects are also linked to a robbery along Kawaala Road on July 24, 2026, where a businessman reportedly lost Shs4.8 million, an iPhone 16 Pro Max, a bracelet and a silver chain.
Police investigations have further connected the suspects to a number of other major robbery cases. These include a robbery involving Shs327 million at Wampewo, Shs35 million at Kiwatule, Shs15 million along Ntinda-Kalinabiri Road and Shs13.5 million at Kamwokya.
Other cases under investigation include the alleged robbery of Shs33.4 million at Namugongo and Shs620 million from Forex Bureau workers along Kampala Road. Police have also linked the group to an attempted robbery involving Shs27 million at Namugongo.
Four suspects currently in Police custody have been identified as Ssemanda Yasin, also known as Zanda; Jjingo Ramathan, alias Rama; Kasumba Cohen, alias Farouk; and Musoke Eric.
Police said six other suspects who are already on remand at Luzira Prison in connection with another aggravated robbery case will also be brought before court on production warrants in connection with the new cases. They are Kasozi Ismael, Mulindwa Shafik, Gizamba Ivan, Kawaganya Tomimu, Kayira Muhamad and Ongom Ivan.
The suspects in Police custody are expected to appear before Mwanga II Chief Magistrates Court, where they will face the allegations against them. Police said investigations are still ongoing as efforts continue to trace other suspects who remain at large.
Investigators are also working to recover property and money believed to have been obtained from the proceeds of the alleged crimes.
Kampala Metropolitan Police has appealed to journalists and media organisations to attend and cover the court proceedings as the suspects are produced before court. Police said media coverage will help keep the public informed about the progress of the cases.
The Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, said the suspects would be produced before court as Police continues with efforts to bring all those involved to justice.
