Police have arrested the driver identified as Kigozi John Baptist, who was involved in the fatal crash at Namulanda along Entebbe Road that claimed the lives of two journalists working with Next Media and seriously injured another.
The suspect was arrested during a joint inter-agency operation conducted last night as authorities intensified investigations into the circumstances surrounding the deadly accident.
The crash left Uganda’s media fraternity mourning after two journalists lost their lives in the tragic incident. Another journalist who was involved in the crash sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving medical attention.
Uganda Police said Kigozi will be produced in court at the appropriate time to face charges arising from the crash. The move is expected to pave the way for the legal process as investigators work to establish what exactly led to the fatal accident.
The arrest comes as authorities continue to stress the importance of road safety, particularly on busy roads such as Entebbe Road, where motorists are required to exercise caution and strictly follow traffic rules.
Police said the investigation is still ongoing and that further updates will be provided as the matter progresses. Authorities have also assured the public that the case will be handled according to the law to ensure that justice prevails.
