Police Investigate Kiwatule Bar Fire as Welding Sparks Destroy Property Worth Millions

Must read

Police in Kira Road are investigating a fire that broke out at Lagatos Bar in Kiwatule, Kampala, destroying property worth millions of shillings.

The fire occurred on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at around 2:00pm at the bar located in Kazinga Zone, Kiwatule Parish, Nakawa Division. Fortunately, no deaths or injuries were reported.

Preliminary police findings indicate that the fire may have been caused by sparks generated during welding activities inside the premises. The welding was reportedly part of renovation works being carried out at the bar when the fire started.

The Police Fire Prevention and Rescue Services responded to the scene and successfully extinguished the fire, preventing the flames from spreading further.

The emergency response was supported by the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL), which disconnected the power supply to the premises to prevent additional danger and protect emergency responders.

Police officers later visited and examined the scene as investigations continued to establish the exact cause of the fire and assess the full extent of the damage.

Police have urged members of the public to exercise caution when carrying out welding and other activities involving flames or sparks, particularly inside premises where combustible materials are stored.

Authorities have also reminded business owners to put proper fire-safety measures in place and ensure that renovation and construction work is carried out safely to reduce the risk of fire outbreaks.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
