Must read

Police in Katwe Division have continued with an intensive operation targeting stolen motorcycles and spare parts in the Wansanso Zone, Kibuye II Parish, Makindye Division, Kampala. The operation, which began on April 20, 2026, reached a critical point on April 22, 2026, when authorities conducted a thorough search starting at 9:00 AM. During the search, police cordoned off eight shops in the area and uncovered a significant haul of stolen motorcycle parts.

The recovered items included twenty-eight Ugandan motorcycle number plates, eight tracking devices, and three foreign number plates, including one from South Sudan and three from Kenya. Among the seized items were also three complete motorcycles with tampered number plates. These discoveries are believed to be part of a larger network involved in the theft of motorcycles and the illegal trade of their spare parts.

The operation didn’t stop there. Later that evening, police ramped up their efforts to apprehend individuals connected to the recovered items. Their hard work led to the arrest of several suspects, starting with Kavuma Faisal, who was caught at Shell Kibuye. A search of his shop revealed a brand-new motorcycle without a number plate, alongside several other stolen motorcycle parts.

Another suspect, Sonko Alex, from Kinawa in Nateete, was arrested after he was found with a stolen motorcycle, a red Bajaj Boxer with the registration number UFC 830R. His involvement in the stolen motorcycle network became clear, and he was taken into custody for further questioning.

A third suspect, Matovu Mike, was apprehended in Ndeeba, further tightening the net around this criminal operation. The police are continuing their investigations and are determined to uncover more stolen motorcycles and spare parts, as well as to apprehend other individuals connected to these crimes.

Police remain committed to combating motorcycle theft, which has been a growing problem in the Kampala Metropolitan area. The authorities are working tirelessly to dismantle the criminal networks behind the theft and illegal sale of motorcycles and their parts. With more arrests expected and investigations ongoing, the police are sending a strong message to those involved in motorcycle theft that their days are numbered.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed the continued commitment of the force in fighting this growing crime. As the operation moves forward, police urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to motorcycle theft in their communities.
