Police in Nsangi and Kyengera have successfully recovered an illegal firearm and arrested a 26-year-old man following a well-coordinated security operation carried out on 1st May 2026. The operation was based on a credible tip-off from members of the public, which led officers to act swiftly in order to prevent possible criminal activity in the area.
The suspect has been identified as Kimbugwe Vincent, also known as Kasumali. Acting on the information received, police officers moved to Massanda Cell in Kyengera Town Council, where they conducted a search at his residence. During the search, officers discovered an AK-47 rifle that was hidden inside the house.
According to police reports, the recovered firearm appeared to be rusted, and its serial number had been deliberately obscured, making identification more difficult. This raised further suspicion about its origin and possible past use. The weapon has since been taken to the police forensic laboratory for detailed analysis to help establish its history and whether it was used in any criminal activities.
The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue. Authorities say they are working to determine how he obtained the firearm and whether he is linked to any criminal networks operating within or outside the area.
Security officials have praised the cooperation between the police and the public, noting that timely information sharing played a key role in the successful operation. They emphasized that community vigilance remains a strong tool in the fight against illegal firearms and crime.
The police have also reassured residents that efforts to ensure safety and maintain order will continue across Nsangi, Kyengera, and surrounding areas.
