Police, with sister security agencies, conducted a major intelligence-led operation in Kiboga Town Council on the 11th of April 2026, targeting a notorious criminal gang known as “Scorpions.” The gang had been wreaking havoc in the town, engaging in phone snatching, bag thefts, and other petty crimes. This operation was set in motion after months of gathering crucial information about their activities, leading to the successful arrest of 14 gang members.
The 14 suspects, including 13 male adults and 1 female juvenile, were taken into custody during the operation. Upon interrogation, they confessed to their involvement in tampering with the IMEI numbers of stolen mobile phones before selling them to local dealers in Kiboga. This revelation has put a spotlight on the widespread nature of the gang’s activities, not just on the streets but also within the business community.
Following the suspects’ confessions, two phone dealers were arrested based on the information provided by the criminals. These dealers were reportedly involved in purchasing the tampered phones and selling them in the local market. This brings to light how far-reaching and organized the gang’s operations were, involving not just petty thieves, but also individuals in the business community who were unknowingly fueling the thefts.
The police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and more arrests are expected as they work to dismantle the entire network. Local authorities have praised the operation for its success in curbing the rising tide of crime in Kiboga. As of now, the town is experiencing a sense of relief, with the community hopeful that more such operations will follow to restore safety and peace.
