Police in Mbale City Northern Division is investigating a serious case of aggravated robbery involving a senior four student, which has led to the arrest of six students from Nkoma Secondary School. The incident, which has shocked residents and students in the area, allegedly happened on 14 April 2026 along Nabuyonga Rise in Kichafu Cell, Namakwekwe Ward.
According to police reports, the victim, Buyinza Siraj, a 20-year-old student of Mbale Progressive Secondary School and resident of Buyonjo Cell, was reportedly attacked while returning home from school at around 5:00pm. It is alleged that the suspects, who are also day scholars, confronted him along the road and assaulted him while armed with a knife.
During the incident, the attackers allegedly robbed the victim of his Infinix Smart 6 mobile phone and UGX 20,000 in cash before fleeing the scene. The attack caused fear among passersby, and a video clip recorded by a passerby has since circulated widely on social media, drawing public attention to the case.
Police later confirmed that the victim reported the matter at Nkoma Police Station, where a case of aggravated robbery was officially registered. The victim was interviewed and medically examined using the Police Form 3 to document his injuries and account of what happened.
Following investigations, police officers visited the scene and collected evidence to support the case. Six suspects, all students of Nkoma Secondary School and identified as Abudu Kadiru (S.2F), Mwesigwa John (S.2C), Nabigwa Opolot James (S.2F), Weboya Patrick (S.2B), Magomu Edrine (S.2B), and Wadonyi Brian (S.2F), were arrested in connection with the incident. Authorities also recovered a knife believed to have been used during the attack.
Police say investigations are still ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident, including the role of each suspect. The matter has raised concern among education stakeholders and residents, who are calling for stronger measures to prevent violence among students and ensure safety along school routes.
The suspects remain in custody as police continue with inquiries into the case.
