Must read

Police have arrested a suspected motorcycle robber and recovered a stolen bike in a swift operation carried out on 5th May 2026 in Masajja, Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipality, Kampala District. Acting on timely information, officers from Kikajo Police Station tracked down the suspect, identified as Byakatonda Fred, who was reportedly found with a stolen motorcycle and attempting to disable its tracking device. His alleged accomplice managed to escape and is still being hunted by authorities.

According to preliminary findings, the suspect is believed to have stolen the motorcycle from the Najjanankumbi area and was in the process of transporting it to an unknown location, possibly for resale. During the arrest, police recovered a sharp, brand-new panga, which is suspected to have been used to threaten and rob victims. The motorcycle, a maroon Haojue with registration number UMA 399GY, has been secured as key evidence in the ongoing investigation.

Investigators believe that the arrested suspect is part of a larger criminal group that has been targeting boda boda riders in and around Kampala. These criminals reportedly use dangerous weapons like pangas to intimidate riders and steal their motorcycles. Police have vowed to continue pursuing all individuals connected to this network and to bring them to justice.

In a broader effort to fight crime across the Kampala Metropolitan area, several coordinated police operations were conducted in different divisions. In Katwe, operations in areas such as Clock Tower, Katwe Kinyoro, and Kibuye led to the arrest of 32 suspects. Meanwhile, officers from Jinja Road Police carried out operations in Kitintale, Mbuya, Nakawa, and Lugogo, arresting 10 suspects.

In Kira Division, another major operation took place at Tropical Bar in Kira Municipality, Wakiso District, where 36 suspects were apprehended. These operations are part of a wider strategy by the police to reduce crime, dismantle criminal groups, and improve safety for residents.

Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala confirmed that such operations will continue as security agencies remain committed to protecting the public. She also urged the community to keep sharing information that can help in identifying and arresting criminals.
