Police in Nsangi, Wakiso District, have launched investigations into a suspected suffocation incident that claimed the life of a 12-year-old boy and left four other people hospitalized.
The incident happened on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at around 9:00am in Naggalabi Cell, Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District, leaving residents shocked and concerned about what could have caused the tragedy.
The deceased has been identified as Mutonzi Marvin, a male juvenile aged about 12 years and a resident of the same area. According to police, Marvin was found unconscious together with four other family members at their home before he was later pronounced dead.
The victims who survived include two juveniles, their mother and a housemaid. They were immediately rushed to Mulago Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical attention as doctors work to save their lives.
Preliminary information gathered by police indicates that the incident may have been caused by possible suffocation. It is alleged that at around 7:00am, the housemaid placed beans on a charcoal stove in the garage before locking the house as other family members remained asleep inside.
The housemaid then reportedly continued with her household duties, but later the family members were discovered unconscious under unclear circumstances. Police say investigations are ongoing to establish what exactly happened and determine the actual cause of the incident.
The body of the deceased was taken to Mulago Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination, which is expected to provide more details about the circumstances surrounding his death.
Police have urged the public to remain calm as investigations continue, promising to provide more information once the facts are established. The incident has left residents of Kyengera mourning the loss of the young boy while praying for the recovery of those still hospitalized.
