A deadly road accident along the Kampala–Gulu Highway has left 14 people dead and 28 others injured after an Isuzu bus collided head-on with a trailer at Bobi Trading Centre in Omoro District.
The crash happened on Tuesday, 7th July 2026, at around 9:34 pm. According to preliminary findings from the traffic police, the accident involved motor vehicle registration number UBE 110H, an Isuzu bus belonging to OPIT Travellers Company, and a Mercedes-Benz Actros trailer registration number KBS 564D/ZE 7948.
Police reports indicate that the bus driver was allegedly driving at a high speed when he attempted to avoid a pedestrian who was crossing the road. The driver reportedly lost control of the bus, causing it to move into the path of the oncoming trailer, leading to a deadly head-on collision.
The impact of the crash was severe, resulting in the death of fourteen passengers, while twenty-eight others suffered various injuries. The injured victims were quickly evacuated and taken to different medical facilities where they are receiving treatment.
Police have since launched investigations to establish the full circumstances that led to the accident and determine whether any other factors contributed to the tragedy.
The Traffic and Road Safety Directorate has once again urged motorists to exercise extra caution on the roads, especially at night when visibility is poor. Drivers have been reminded to respect speed limits, remain alert in trading centres, watch out for pedestrians, and always maintain speeds that allow them to stop safely when faced with unexpected situations.
The accident has renewed concerns about road safety on major highways, with authorities calling on drivers and road users to prioritize human life by avoiding reckless driving and observing traffic regulations.
