KAMPALA – ZUKU/Wananchi and its parent company, AXIAN Group, are facing mounting pressure as over 80 affected Ugandans prepare a peaceful procession and petition demanding investigations into the company’s operations in Uganda.
According to organizers, participants will assemble in Bukoto before proceeding under police escort to ZUKU’s Bugolobi offices. The procession will be accompanied by members of the media and will later proceed to the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) and other government institutions.
The petition reportedly calls for investigations into alleged non-payment disputes and seeks a review of ZUKU’s operating licence should regulators find breaches of legal or regulatory obligations.
Organizers say copies of the petition will also be delivered to the Speaker of Parliament, the Ministry of ICT, the Ministry of Labour, and other relevant authorities.
Participants are expected to carry banners displaying the names of ZUKU, Wananchi, and AXIAN Group while calling for accountability, transparency, and protection of Ugandan businesses, workers, and consumers.
The planned demonstration is expected to be peaceful and conducted in accordance with the law under the supervision of security authorities.
Court proceedings and regulatory complaints are also reportedly being prepared by affected parties seeking recovery of outstanding obligations and other remedies available under Ugandan law.
ZUKU, Wananchi, and AXIAN Group had not publicly responded to the planned petition at the time of publication.
