UCC has strengthened Uganda’s voice in Africa’s digital transformation agenda after representing the country at the 7th Conference of Plenipotentiaries (CPL-26) of the African Telecommunications Union (ATU) held in Abuja, Nigeria.
The high-level conference brought together telecommunications leaders and policymakers from across Africa to discuss the future direction of the continent’s digital development over the next four years.Led by UCC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Fred Otunnu, the Ugandan delegation participated in important discussions aimed at improving digital connectivity, promoting innovation, and creating policies that will support the growth of Africa’s technology sector.
During the conference, Member States focused on key issues including spectrum management, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, digital innovation, and ensuring that more people across Africa can access reliable communication services. These discussions are expected to shape policies that will guide the continent’s telecommunications sector and support the increasing demand for digital services.The CPL-26 conference provided an important opportunity for African countries to work together, share ideas, and develop common strategies that address challenges affecting the digital space.
Through stronger regional cooperation, countries aim to build a more connected Africa where technology can contribute to economic growth, education, healthcare, business development, and improved livelihoods.Uganda’s participation at the conference highlights the country’s commitment to advancing digital transformation and supporting initiatives that promote affordable and accessible communication services for all citizens.
