Four people have been confirmed dead following a fatal road accident involving a Fusobox truck and a Mercedes Benz trailer along the Masaka-Kampala Highway in Masaka City.
The accident occurred at Matanga (Ndikuttamadda) area in Masaka East Region on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at around 12:05am.
According to police, the crash involved motor vehicle registration number UBQ 238Q, a white Fusobox truck, and a Mercedes Benz trailer registration numbers CGO 9638AF/19 and CGO 6561AA/19, with a white head and blue trailer.
Police said the trailer, which was being driven by Syaunswa Kanyamunyu, was travelling from Masaka towards Kampala when it reached Matanga Hill and allegedly attempted to overtake another vehicle.
During the manoeuvre, the trailer reportedly collided head-on with the Fusobox truck that was coming from Kampala heading towards Masaka.
The impact left four male adults dead, including three occupants of the Fusobox truck and the driver of the trailer.
One unidentified male passenger who was travelling in the Fusobox truck survived the crash and was rushed to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to the same hospital mortuary for postmortem as police continued investigations into the incident.
Both vehicles remained at the scene pending towing.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, although preliminary findings indicate that careless overtaking by the driver of the Mercedes Benz trailer may have contributed to the crash.
Police urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads, especially when overtaking, to prevent further loss of lives.
The statement was issued by SP Kasirye Twaha, Public Relations Officer for Masaka East and West Police Regions.
