Police in Wakiso have recovered a suspected stolen motor vehicle and arrested three suspects following an intelligence-led operation aimed at cracking down on the increasing cases of vehicle theft in the area.
The operation was launched after the theft of a blue Toyota Sienta, registration number UBJ 997A, belonging to Kusiima Zuria, a resident of Gombe A Village in Wakiso District.
Investigators were able to trace the stolen vehicle using tracking devices installed in the car. The first signal directed police officers to a parking yard in Matuga, where they discovered parts of a dismantled tracking device, suggesting that the suspects had attempted to disable the system and avoid detection.
However, another tracking device that had remained hidden continued transmitting signals, allowing investigators to follow the vehicle’s location. The trail eventually led them to a parking yard in Magere, Kasangati, where police recovered the vehicle.
The vehicle was found largely intact, although the steering system had been tampered with, indicating that the suspects had started efforts to alter or dismantle parts of the car.
Three suspects identified as Mayanja David, Sirisayi Bosco, and Ssekandi Juma were arrested during the operation and are currently being held at Wakiso Police Station as investigations continue.
Police said the recovery highlights the importance of installing reliable tracking systems in vehicles, as they greatly improve the chances of recovering stolen property and help law enforcement respond quickly during investigations.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer ASP Luke Owoyesigyire encouraged vehicle owners to take preventive security measures, including installing tracking devices and reporting theft cases promptly to enable faster police action.
Police have pledged to continue using intelligence-led operations to disrupt criminal networks involved in vehicle theft and bring those responsible to justice.
