As Uganda marks Heroes Day, Mawerere Isaac Doka, Youth MP Aspirant for Eastern Uganda, is urging the country especially the young generation to go beyond celebration and step forward as the new wave of leaders, changemakers, and protectors of Uganda’s future.
In his heartfelt Heroes Day message, Mawerere pays tribute to the brave men and women who risked everything—some even their lives—to secure the peace, freedom, and opportunity Ugandans enjoy today. But to him, this day is more than just a moment to reflect. It’s also a call to action.
“Heroes Day is not just about looking back,” he says. “It’s about looking ahead. It’s a time to renew our commitment to serve our country with passion and purpose—especially as young people.”
Mawerere believes that while the past is filled with heroes who fought battles with courage, today’s youth have the power to be heroes in their own way. “Our generation doesn’t need to go to war with guns,” he explains. “We need to go to school, start businesses, protect our environment, speak up for the voiceless, and lead with honesty and courage.”
As a Youth MP hopeful, Mawerere draws his inspiration from the sacrifices of Uganda’s national heroes. He says their legacy drives his mission to serve the people and advocate for real change. For him, youth empowerment, job creation, education, and civic participation are the new frontlines in the journey toward national development.
“We honor our past heroes best when we commit ourselves to building a brighter future,” he says. “Every young Ugandan should know that they matter. Their voice matters. Their efforts matter. We are the leaders and defenders of tomorrow.”
Mawerere closes his message with a powerful reminder: “Let this Heroes Day unite us as one people, under one flag, working toward one future. May the sacrifices of our heroes ignite a new sense of duty in all of us—one rooted in service, leadership, and opportunity for every Ugandan.”
Happy Heroes Day, Uganda. Let’s rise, and be the heroes of our time.
