From Village Girl To Cabinet!! The Humble Journey of Minister Nambozo Florence Mayoga

Must read

In the hills of Sironko District, a young village girl named Florence Nambozo Wamala began a journey that would one day lead her to the top levels of Uganda’s government. Raised in a humble Christian home, Florence grew up working in the gardens, attending church, and singing in the choir at Buhugu Cathedral. Even as a young girl, she showed signs of being a servant leader — someone who truly cares for others.

Her father, Mzee Petero Wamala, played a big role in shaping her future. He raised her with values like discipline, respect, and faith — values she continues to carry today. She later got married to Mr. Mayoga Henry, also from Sironko, who supports her deeply in her public service journey.

Florence started her education in rural schools, facing many challenges. But through hard work and determination, she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Kyambogo University in 2012. She became a teacher and worked in several schools, including the Aga Khan Education Centre in Kampala. Her students and colleagues loved her for her discipline, kindness, and deep commitment to education.

However, Florence knew she could do more to serve her people. In 2013, she ran for the position of Woman Member of Parliament (MP) for Sironko District. Though she lost, she didn’t give up. In 2015, she contested again — this time on the NRM ticket — and won, returning the seat to the ruling party after years of opposition control.

In 2021, when she lost the NRM primaries, many thought she would give up politics. But Florence remained strong and ran as an independent. Once again, the people of Sironko trusted her and voted her back into Parliament.

Her dedication and persistence were rewarded again in 2023, when she was appointed State Minister for Karamoja Affairs, replacing Hon. Agnes Nandutu. Her rise surprised some, but for those who know her story, it made perfect sense — she had worked hard, stayed loyal, and always put the people first.

Even with her ministerial duties, Florence continues to support her community. She helps young girls stay in school, provides supplies to poor families, and runs mentorship programs for women and youth. She is especially passionate about girls’ education, rural development, and empowering women.

Her love for learning never stopped. In 2023, she earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and Management from Uganda Christian University. She is now studying for a PhD, showing young girls everywhere that education has no age limit — and leadership has no limit for women.

Now campaigning for a third term in Parliament, Florence Nambozo Wamala stands tall as more than a politician. She is a teacher, a mother, a leader, and a true role model. Her journey — from village girl to Cabinet Minister — is proof that faith, education, and resilience can take anyone far.
