The campaign trail of the NUP presidential candidate, Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi, experienced a tense and eventful day on 17th December 2025 as he moved through parts of the Teso sub-region. His planned activities covered Katakwi, Kapelebyong, and Amuria districts, with approved venues including Toroma Primary School, Ocorimongin Primary School, and several town council grounds. However, the day unfolded with unexpected stops, disagreements, and schedule disruptions that affected the planned rallies.
Hon. Kyagulanyi arrived in Katakwi District from Kumi using the Gweri–Toroma Road. Along the way, he made two stopovers at Gweri and Omasitei trading centres in Soroti District, which had not been cleared as campaign venues. These brief roadside engagements drew crowds and slowed his journey to the first official rally point, setting the tone for a day that would later be marked by disagreements over campaign procedures.
At about 1:40 pm, the candidate reached Toroma Town Council. Instead of heading directly to Toroma Primary School, the agreed venue, he addressed supporters along the roadside. This move went against the approved campaign plan, prompting concern from security officers tasked with enforcing campaign guidelines and public order during the election period.
The situation became more tense when Hon. Kyagulanyi proceeded toward Katakwi Town Council for his second rally. Upon reaching the Moroto–Soroti Road junction, he declined to go to Ocorimongin Primary School, the designated venue. A standoff followed between the candidate and security officers, lasting over 30 minutes and disrupting the planned campaign program in the area.
After the standoff, security advised the NUP candidate to proceed to Kapelebyong District to continue with the next scheduled rally. He arrived at Kapelebyong Primary School at around 5:00 pm, where the rally was successfully conducted and concluded at about 5:50 pm. By this time, the campaign day was nearing its end, leaving little room for further activities.
Due to the late hour, Hon. Kyagulanyi did not proceed to Amuria District as earlier planned, since it was already past the authorized campaign time of 6:00 pm. After the Kapelebyong rally, security guided him on a safer route back toward Soroti, but he declined and expressed his intention to go to Amuria Town. Security agencies rejected this move, citing safety concerns and the end of permitted campaign hours, effectively bringing the day’s campaign activities to a close.
