Four Lives Lost in Early Morning Horror on Masaka–Mbarara Road

Must read

A deadly road accident claimed four lives, including two juveniles, in the early hours of Saturday morning along the Masaka–Mbarara highway. The tragic crash occurred at about 4:30 a.m. at Njagalakasayi in Lwengo District, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

According to Traffic Police, the accident involved two vehicles that collided head-on under unclear circumstances. The vehicles were identified as a silver Fuso truck, registration number UBP 510V, and a silver Toyota Fielder, registration number UBH 476W. The Fuso was being driven by an unidentified driver, while the Toyota Fielder was carrying four occupants.

Preliminary findings indicate that the Toyota Fielder was traveling from Masaka towards Mbarara when it crossed into the opposite lane. The vehicle then rammed head-on into the oncoming Fuso, which was heading towards Masaka. The impact was severe and left little chance of survival for those inside the smaller car.

All four occupants of the Toyota Fielder died instantly at the scene. The deceased included the male driver, an adult female passenger, and two juvenile passengers. Their identities had not yet been established by the time of the police report, as no immediate identification documents were recovered from the scene.

Traffic Police officers quickly responded to the incident and secured the area to allow investigations to begin. The wreckage from both vehicles was later towed to a nearby police station, where it will undergo inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV) as part of ongoing investigations.

The bodies of the deceased were transported to Masaka City Mortuary, where postmortem examinations are expected to be conducted to aid further inquiries and formal identification. Police say families will be notified once identification is confirmed.

While investigations are still ongoing, police have cited reckless driving as the likely cause of the accident. Officers have once again warned motorists to exercise caution, especially during early morning hours when visibility is low and fatigue may affect driving judgment.

The Masaka–Mbarara road is one of the busiest highways in the region, particularly during the festive season when traffic volumes increase. Police continue to urge drivers to observe speed limits, remain in their lanes, and avoid dangerous maneuvers that put lives at risk.

The statement was issued by SP Kasirye Twaha, the Public Relations Officer for Greater Masaka Police, who extended condolences to the bereaved families and called on all road users to prioritize safety to prevent further loss of life.
