The Traffic Police in Nakasongola District are investigating a fatal road crash that occurred on Sunday at around 11:50 a.m. at Sasira Trading Centre along the busy Kampala–Gulu Highway. The accident claimed the life of a 15-year-old girl and left five others injured, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Police reports indicate that the collision involved two vehicles: a black Subaru Forester (registration number UA 969 AD), driven by an unknown person, and a white Toyota Hiace taxi (registration number UA 525 DA) driven by Seguya Emmanuel. At the time of the crash, the taxi was parked in a designated lane on the left-hand side of the road, facing the Kampala direction, while offloading passengers.
The Subaru Forester, traveling from Kampala toward Gulu, reportedly attempted to overtake another vehicle within the trading centre. Unfortunately, the driver lost control and collided with the stationary taxi. The impact killed Lunkuse Anita, a juvenile, on the spot.
The injured victims include Bukenya Amon, Nakazibwe Vanisha (16), Sesanga Sadrack (25), Nanyombi Zam, and Seguya Emmanuel, the taxi driver. All were boarding or around the taxi when the accident occurred. They were rushed to Nakasongola Health Centre IV for treatment.
Police quickly responded to the scene, documenting evidence and preparing a sketch plan to support the ongoing investigation. The body of the deceased was taken to the health centre pending a postmortem examination, while both vehicles were towed to Nakasongola Police Station for inspection.
Authorities are continuing their inquiries to determine the exact circumstances of the crash and identify the driver of the Subaru. The incident highlights the dangers of reckless driving, especially in busy areas, and authorities are urging road users to remain vigilant and adhere to traffic rules to prevent further tragedies.
