Airtel Uganda has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding digital connectivity and inclusion across the country after officially handing over 2% of its Gross Annual Revenues to the Uganda Communications Universal Service and Access Fund (UCUSAF). The handover ceremony took place this morning and marked another important step in supporting efforts to improve communication and internet access in underserved and unserved communities throughout Uganda.
The Uganda Communications Universal Service and Access Fund, commonly known as UCUSAF, was established and is managed by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) to promote nationwide access to communication services. The fund plays a key role in ensuring that even remote and hard-to-reach areas are connected to digital services, helping bridge the gap between urban and rural communities.
According to officials, Airtel Uganda’s contribution will directly support ongoing projects aimed at strengthening digital inclusion, improving internet connectivity, and increasing access to communication infrastructure across the country. These efforts are expected to benefit schools, health centers, businesses, and communities that still face challenges accessing reliable communication networks.
The contribution also highlights the growing role telecommunications companies continue to play in Uganda’s digital transformation agenda. By supporting UCUSAF, Airtel Uganda is contributing to national efforts focused on technology-driven development, improved access to information, and economic empowerment through digital services.
Uganda has in recent years intensified efforts to expand internet penetration and communication coverage as the demand for digital services continues to grow. Stakeholders believe partnerships between telecom companies and regulatory bodies like UCC are critical in ensuring that no community is left behind in the digital era.
The move by Airtel Uganda has been welcomed by many as a positive example of corporate responsibility and commitment to national development. With more investments being directed toward connectivity and communication infrastructure, many underserved communities could soon experience improved access to online education, digital financial services, e-health solutions, and other opportunities created by internet access.
