Border Crackdown! 18 Foreign Nationals Arrested and Deported at Pakwach and Olwiyo Checkpoints

Must read

Security officials, led by Deputy RDC Achile Twaibu, have arrested and deported 18 Congolese nationals who were found to have entered Uganda illegally.

The operation was carried out at the Pakwach Checkpoint and Olwiyo Checkpoint, where security teams intercepted the group during routine enforcement activities. Authorities confirmed that while some of the individuals were found carrying passports or Congolese national identity cards, others had no valid travel or identification documents.

Following verification and security procedures, the group was detained and later deported in line with immigration laws. Officials stated that the action was necessary to maintain order and prevent unlawful entry into the country.

The arrests come shortly after the closure of the Uganda–DRC border, a preventive measure taken by authorities in response to rising cases of the Bundibugyo Ebola virus disease reported in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The closure is aimed at reducing the risk of cross-border transmission and protecting public health.

Security agencies have since intensified surveillance and monitoring at all border points and checkpoints across the region. Authorities say the increased vigilance is part of broader efforts to ensure public safety, strengthen border control, and prevent any potential health or security threats.

Officials have also urged the public to cooperate with security personnel and report any suspicious movements, stressing that safeguarding the country requires collective responsibility during this sensitive period.
