The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has arrived in Rwanda’s capital, Kigali, for an official working visit aimed at strengthening cooperation between Uganda and Rwanda.
During the visit, Gen Kainerugaba is expected to hold important discussions with senior officials of the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) on matters related to security, defence cooperation, and areas of shared interest between the two neighbouring countries.
The UPDF chief is also scheduled to meet with Rwandan President Paul Kagame as part of his engagements in Kigali. The meeting is expected to focus on strengthening the existing relationship between Uganda and Rwanda and exploring ways the two countries can continue working together on regional security matters.
Upon his arrival, Gen Kainerugaba was welcomed by Rwanda’s Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Mubarakh Muganga, together with Commander of the Republican Guard, Major General Willy Rwagasana, and Uganda’s Defence Attaché to Rwanda, Col Ezekiel Matsiko.
The visit comes at a time when Uganda and Rwanda continue to emphasise the importance of maintaining strong diplomatic and security relations. Both countries share historical, economic, and security interests in the Great Lakes region, making cooperation between their defence forces an important part of regional stability.
Gen Kainerugaba’s latest engagement in Kigali highlights ongoing efforts by the two countries’ leadership to enhance communication, build trust, and promote closer collaboration between their armed forces. The discussions are expected to further strengthen the partnership between the UPDF and RDF while addressing issues of mutual concern.
