Must read

Kampala Metropolitan Police have intensified their fight against crime, carrying out a series of operations on 20th April 2026 across Kampala and Wakiso districts. The operations focused on areas known for criminal activity, including Mbuya, Kinawataka, Namugongo Nsawo, Bulindo Katuli, Bweyogerere, and Wansaso Zone in Makindye Division. These areas have been linked to robbery, burglary, motorcycle theft, and drug use.

During the operations, police arrested 49 suspects found in possession of suspected narcotic drugs, including cannabis. In addition, officers recovered various items believed to be used in crimes, such as hammers, knives, wires, and other suspicious tools. Electronic devices and household items suspected to have been stolen were also seized, highlighting the reach and professionalism of the operations.

A key focus was on motorcycle theft in Wansaso Zone, where thieves often posed as passengers before luring riders into isolated areas and stealing their motorcycles. Police, acting on public complaints and court-authorized searches, inspected over 20 premises suspected of selling stolen motorcycles. Among the recovered exhibits were motorcycle spare parts believed to belong to around 250 stolen motorcycles and multiple number plates hidden on the premises.

All arrested suspects are now in police custody and face charges including possession of suspected narcotic drugs, public nuisance, and possession of suspected stolen property. Investigations are ongoing to ensure that all criminal networks are fully dismantled and stolen property returned.

Kampala Metropolitan Police reaffirmed their commitment to protecting residents, recovering stolen goods, and maintaining public safety. Authorities are also urging the public to remain vigilant and provide timely information to support crime prevention and detection efforts. These operations demonstrate the police’s determination to make Kampala and Wakiso safer for everyone.
