Police in Kawempe have arrested Katongole Anthony, also known as “Chicken Chicken,” in connection with a case of malicious damage to a motor vehicle.

The arrest follows an incident that has attracted widespread public attention after a video circulated on social media allegedly showed the suspect taking part in the destruction of a vehicle parked at Akamweesi Mall in Kawempe Division, Kampala District.

According to police, the incident happened in the early hours of Thursday, June 25, 2026, at around 3:00 a.m. The vehicle involved, a Toyota Mark X registration number UBM 696S, belongs to Sali Sharif, commonly known as “Shawa Shawa.” The footage, which quickly spread across various social media platforms, sparked concern among members of the public and prompted police to launch investigations into the matter.

Preliminary findings indicate that Katongole Anthony was allegedly acting together with other individuals who have not yet been arrested. The group is suspected of attacking the vehicle while it was parked at the mall, smashing its windscreens and causing significant damage. The motive behind the incident has not yet been officially disclosed as investigations continue.

Police moved swiftly after reviewing the information and evidence available, leading to the arrest of the suspect. He is currently being held in police custody as detectives continue gathering statements, reviewing evidence, and establishing the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Meanwhile, security teams have intensified efforts to identify and track down the other individuals believed to have participated in the attack. Police say investigations are still ongoing and additional arrests could be made as more evidence emerges.

The incident has once again raised concerns about acts of vandalism and destruction of property, especially in public places. Police have strongly condemned such behavior, warning that anyone involved in criminal acts will be held accountable under the law.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala reaffirmed the force’s commitment to maintaining law and order, emphasizing that acts of lawlessness will not be tolerated. She urged members of the public to remain peaceful and lawful while allowing investigators to complete their work.

As investigations continue, police have assured the public that all those connected to the incident will be pursued and brought before the courts to answer for their actions.
