The Inspectorate of Government (IGG) has impounded a Kibaale District bulldozer worth about UGX 600 million over allegations that the government equipment was being misused for private benefit.
The heavy machine, registration number LG 0028-19, was seized during a spot-check operation carried out by officers from the IGG Hoima Regional Office in partnership with the Hoima Central Police Station. The bulldozer is currently being kept at Kibaale Central Police Station as investigations continue.
According to the IGG, preliminary findings indicate that the bulldozer had allegedly been hired out to Karukana Enterprises Ltd, a private company, in what investigators suspect was an irregular arrangement for personal gain.
The investigations have reportedly linked the alleged misuse of the government equipment to Kibaale District Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Mr. Katotoroma John and District Engineer Mr. Bagire Chrizestom. The IGG said the actions under investigation may have gone against existing laws and regulations governing the management and use of public resources.
Following the operation, Mr. Katotoroma John was arrested and taken to Kibaale Central Police Station, where he recorded a statement. He was later released on police bond as investigations into the matter continue.
The CAO is being investigated for alleged misuse of government property, an offence under Section 9(5) of the Anti-Corruption Act, Cap. 116.
Meanwhile, the District Engineer, Mr. Bagire Chrizestom, has not been arrested but has been invited by the IGG Hoima Regional Office to provide information and assist investigators with the ongoing inquiry.
The IGG has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public assets and fighting corruption across government institutions. The anti-corruption body said it will continue taking action against individuals suspected of abusing government resources and ensure that public property is used for its intended purpose of serving citizens.
The investigation into the Kibaale bulldozer case remains ongoing, with more details expected as authorities continue gathering evidence.
