Seven men are set to appear before Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court today after police completed investigations into a high-profile robbery in which more than Shs 620 million was stolen from a businessman in Kampala.
The suspects, identified as Mulindwa Sharif, Akid Khalid alias Bombe, Kayiira Muhamed, Tamim Kawaganya, Ongom Ivan, Kasozi Ismael alias Maso, and Gizamba Ivan, have been jointly charged with aggravated robbery. According to police, the accused allegedly participated in a carefully planned robbery that took place on March 26, 2026, at Centenary Bank’s Nkrumah Road Branch in Kampala.
Investigators say the suspects, together with other individuals who are still on the run, targeted a businessman who was carrying a large sum of money belonging to Economic Exchange Forex Bureau. During the incident, the attackers allegedly stole a black backpack containing UGX 620 million. The robbery reportedly happened in broad daylight, causing shock among members of the public and raising concerns about the safety of people handling large amounts of cash in the city.
Police further allege that the suspects were armed with a dangerous weapon, specifically a panga, during the commission of the crime. The use of such a weapon forms part of the reason why the accused are facing the more serious charge of aggravated robbery under Sections 266 and 267(2) of the Penal Code Act.
The case has attracted significant public interest because of the huge amount of money involved and the bold manner in which the robbery was allegedly carried out. Law enforcement agencies have spent weeks gathering evidence and tracking down suspects as part of efforts to bring all those involved to justice.
Kampala Metropolitan Police South Deputy Public Relations Officer, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed that investigations have now been concluded. He invited members of the media to attend and cover the court proceedings at Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court as the matter comes up for hearing today, June 1, 2026.
As the accused make their court appearance, many will be watching closely to see how the case unfolds. Police have also indicated that efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest other suspects who remain at large in connection with the robbery.
