The Electoral Commission has started distributing voter location slips to all registered voters in Kikube District ahead of the upcoming by-election for the district chairperson seat. The process is being carried out at parish level by Electoral Commission officers, who are moving door to door and working through local centres to ensure every eligible voter receives their slip.
The voter location slips are meant to help voters easily identify their polling stations on the day of voting. Officials say this will reduce confusion and make the voting process smoother and faster. Each registered voter will receive a slip that shows where they are expected to cast their vote during the election.
The by-election was called after the death of the Kikube District chairperson, who tragically died in a road accident. The Electoral Commission has now set 18th June 2026 as the official date for voters in the district to choose a new leader.
According to Julius Mucunguzi, the exercise is an important step in ensuring a well-organized election. He explained that the Commission is focused on making the voting process clear and accessible for all citizens. “The voter location slips are meant to help voters easily identify their polling stations on election day,” he said.
Local leaders in Kikube have welcomed the exercise, noting that it will help reduce delays and long queues during voting. Many residents are also expressing readiness to participate in the election, saying they want a smooth and peaceful process.
The Electoral Commission continues to urge all voters to keep their slips safe and to turn up early on election day to avoid last-minute rushes. Officials have also assured the public that all necessary arrangements are in place for a transparent and credible by-election in Kikube District.
