Police at Nateete are holding a 26-year-old man suspected of impersonating a security officer and threatening members of the public during a troubling incident that took place on 21st April 2026 at around 5:00pm. The incident happened along the Northern Bypass in Busega, an area that has recently seen concerns over criminal activity targeting road users.
According to police, the suspect has been identified as Abdu Serugo, a resident of Bombo Kalule in Luwero District. He was arrested after a joint security task team responded quickly to reports from members of the public who said a man was openly threatening to shoot people while pretending to be part of the security forces. His behaviour caused fear among travellers and residents in the area.
When officers reached the scene, they found the suspect still causing alarm. He was immediately arrested and searched. During the search, police recovered a toy pistol from him, which he is believed to have used to intimidate people. He was also found wearing items that made him appear like a real soldier, including footwear similar to military boots and an SFC T-shirt, further strengthening his impersonation.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect may not have been acting alone. Authorities believe he could be part of a group involved in targeting and robbing unsuspecting road users along the Northern Bypass. This has raised serious concern among security agencies, as such incidents threaten the safety of commuters and residents in the area.
Police have since registered cases of personation and threatening violence against the suspect. They have confirmed that investigations are still ongoing, with efforts being made to determine whether he is connected to other criminal activities in the region. Security agencies have also assured the public that patrols and surveillance in the area will be increased to prevent similar incidents.
Authorities are urging members of the public to remain alert and report any suspicious individuals or activities to security agencies. They emphasize that quick reporting played a key role in the arrest of the suspect and could help prevent future crimes along the busy highway.
