Muhoozi Declares Full Support for Tayebwa in Deputy Speaker Race

Must read

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has once again stirred political discussion after publicly announcing support for Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa for the position of Deputy Speaker. In a statement shared online, Muhoozi revealed that after receiving guidance from the Commander-in-Chief, all members of Parliament from PLU, together with MPs who lean towards the movement, would back Tayebwa for the powerful position. The message ended with congratulations to Tayebwa, a sign that the decision may already carry strong political weight.

The statement quickly attracted attention across Uganda’s political space. Many people viewed the announcement as more than just a simple endorsement. To supporters, it showed unity and discipline within the political camp linked to the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU). Others saw it as a strategic move aimed at strengthening alliances in Parliament and ensuring stability within the country’s leadership structures.

Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa has in recent years become one of the most visible and influential figures in Parliament. Known for his confident leadership style and ability to manage heated debates in the House, Tayebwa has earned support from different sections of leaders and citizens. Muhoozi’s public endorsement is therefore expected to boost his standing even further and possibly discourage opposition against his bid.

Political analysts believe the mention of guidance from the Commander-in-Chief adds even more significance to the announcement. In Uganda’s politics, signals from top leadership often shape the direction taken by many MPs and political groups. Because of this, Muhoozi’s statement may influence undecided legislators to rally behind Tayebwa in the coming days.

At the same time, the announcement highlights the growing political influence of PLU and its supporters. Although still young as a political movement, PLU continues to attract attention because of its connection to General Muhoozi and its increasing visibility in national affairs. The support for Tayebwa may therefore also be seen as part of a broader effort to strengthen political networks ahead of future political developments in the country.

As reactions continue to pour in, many Ugandans will be watching closely to see how Parliament responds and whether Tayebwa’s path to the Deputy Speaker position becomes smoother after this endorsement. One thing is clear — Muhoozi’s statement has already added fresh energy and debate to Uganda’s political conversation.
