Police have confirmed that three people have died and 10 others sustained injuries following a fatal road crash involving a Toyota Hiace, registration number UA 836AM, at Omukatagu along the Ishaka–Kagamba Road in Bushenyi District.
The crash occurred on Monday, September 7, 2026, at about 4:40pm, as the vehicle was transporting mourners from Kashaka in Mbarara to Rwererere in Rukungiri through Ishaka–Kagamba Road.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver lost control of the vehicle after reportedly failing to negotiate a corner due to excessive speed. The vehicle was carrying the mourners when the crash occurred, resulting in deaths and injuries.
The 10 injured victims were quickly evacuated from the scene and rushed to KIU Teaching Hospital and Kitagata Hospital, where they are receiving medical attention.
Police have continued to warn motorists against speeding, especially when approaching corners, bends and other sections of roads considered to be high-risk.
According to Police, excessive speed reduces a driver’s ability to react in time and safely negotiate corners, increasing the risk of losing control of a vehicle and causing serious crashes.
Motorists have therefore been urged to observe speed limits and exercise extra caution when driving on roads with sharp corners or other dangerous sections.
