Police in Kiboga district have launched a manhunt for a 28-year-old man accused of stabbing his concubine to death after repeatedly accusing her of cheating on him with other men in the village.
The deceased has been identified as Natukunda Sumaya, 25, a resident of Kakunyu C Cell, Kakunyu Ward in Bukomero Town Council, Kiboga District. She had reportedly been living with the suspect, Serugo Usain, for the last ten months in a rented house belonging to Mr. Kasozi Edward.
According to police, the couple’s relationship had for long been troubled by mistrust, constant accusations and violence. Serugo allegedly believed that Sumaya was involved with other men in the area, something that frequently caused fights between the two.
Reports indicate that on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, the suspect confiscated the deceased’s phone during another disagreement. Later that evening at around 7:00pm, which was Idd day, Sumaya left the house together with her friend identified as Kyosimire Shifrah, leaving the suspect behind at home.
The two women reportedly returned at around 11:00pm. After arriving at the house, Shifrah left Sumaya knocking at the door as she walked away. Moments later, she reportedly heard the deceased screaming for help, shouting that she had been killed. Shocked by the cries, Shifrah rushed back only to find Sumaya lying in a pool of blood.
She immediately alerted the landlord, Mr. Kasozi Edward, who later informed police about the incident.
Police said a homicide team from Kiboga led by the District CID Officer quickly visited the scene. Officers documented the scene of crime and introduced a police sniffer dog which tracked the suspect’s scent up to the main road before losing the trail.
Witness statements were recorded as investigations into the murder continue. The body of the deceased was taken to Kiboga Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
The suspect is currently on the run, and police say efforts are underway to track him down and bring him to justice.
The incident has once again raised concerns about growing cases of domestic violence and deadly relationship conflicts in communities.
The statement was confirmed by SSP L. Kigozi, the Police Public Relations Officer for Wamala Region.
