Police Rescue 17 Young People in Kira Human Trafficking Operation, 2 Arrested

Must read

Police at Kira Division have arrested two suspects allegedly linked to human trafficking activities conducted under the cover of an organization known as “Alliance for Global.” In a well-coordinated operation carried out on June 9, 2026, at around 8:00 a.m., police rescued 17 victims who were reportedly being held in Kiganda Zone, Kireka D, Namugongo Division, Kira Municipality in Wakiso District.

The rescued individuals, aged between 17 and 21 years, came from several districts across northern and eastern Uganda. These include Soroti, Serere, Moyo, Kumi, Amolatar, Amuria, Apac, Kole, Dokolo, Kalaki, Ngora, and Lira. Their wide geographic origin suggests that the recruitment network may have reached many vulnerable communities across the country.

According to preliminary police findings, the victims were allegedly recruited by “Alliance for Global” with promises of training opportunities in nursing, tailoring, and mechanical work. They were also reportedly told they would get chances for employment abroad, which made the offer appear attractive and life-changing. However, investigations indicate that these promises were never fulfilled.

It is further alleged that each victim was required to pay a registration fee of UGX 400,000 before joining the program. This payment requirement has raised concerns that the operation may have been a planned exploitation scheme targeting young people seeking employment and skills development.

During the rescue operation, police recovered the victims from eight rented rooms located in the same area of Kiganda Zone. The conditions and arrangement of the rooms are now part of the ongoing investigations as authorities work to understand how the victims were being managed and for how long they had been held there.

The suspects have been identified as Edenyu Clement, a 22-year-old resident of Kiganda Zone and reportedly a coordinator with “Alliance for Global,” and Abungo Agnes, aged 19, also a resident of the same area and said to be involved in coordination roles within the organization.

Following the operation, the 17 victims were safely reunited with their families. Meanwhile, the two suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue to determine the full extent of the alleged trafficking network and whether more individuals may be involved.

Police spokesperson SP Kawala Racheal confirmed the operation, noting that inquiries are ongoing as authorities continue to gather more evidence on the case.
