Uganda Records Major Drop in Crime! A Safer Future Ahead

Must read

In 2025, Uganda witnessed a significant reduction in reported crime, bringing hope for safer communities across the country. A total of 196,405 cases were reported to the police, marking a 10.2% drop from the 218,715 cases recorded in 2024. This decline is a clear indication that the government’s efforts to strengthen law enforcement and community policing are paying off.

The efficiency of Uganda’s justice system has also improved. Of the cases reported in 2025, 115,301 were submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), and out of these, 79,291 cases proceeded to court. These numbers show that more cases are moving smoothly from the police to the ODPP and finally to the courts, ensuring timely justice for victims and communities.

The hard work of law enforcement and the justice system is evident in the outcomes. A total of 24,899 cases resulted in convictions, with 31,732 individuals convicted and sentenced. These achievements demonstrate that the Sub-County Policing Model, intelligence-led operations, and stronger collaboration between the police, prosecutors, and judiciary are making a real difference in curbing crime.

Inspector General of Police, IGP @igp_ug1, and the Uganda Police Force deserve praise for their dedication, professionalism, and results-oriented leadership. Their efforts are not only reducing crime but also building trust and confidence in the safety of Ugandan communities. With fewer crimes and more convictions, Uganda is moving toward a safer, stronger, and more secure future.
