Police have carried out a successful intelligence-led operation targeting a group of armed suspects who have been terrorizing residents in Kawempe and nearby areas with violent home break-ins and robberies.
The operation took place on 21/04/2026 along Tula Namere Road in Kawempe Division, Wakiso District, following several complaints from the public about panga-wielding criminals attacking people in their homes and stealing their property. Acting on intelligence, officers moved in and arrested two suspects identified as Serwanja Najjib and Derrick.
According to preliminary findings, the suspects were allegedly involved in breaking into homes during the night, attacking victims with pangas, and robbing them of valuable items. Their actions had created fear and insecurity among residents in the area, prompting intensified police surveillance and response.
During the arrest, police conducted a search and recovered several exhibits believed to be linked to the criminal activities. These included pangas, breaking tools, and two mobile phones suspected to have been stolen from victims. Officers also recovered a motorcycle registered as UGD 081D, which the suspects were reportedly using at the time of their arrest. Investigations revealed that the motorcycle’s number plate had been deliberately concealed, possibly to avoid detection.
Police have stated that investigations are still ongoing as efforts continue to track down other suspects believed to be part of the same criminal group. Security forces have also intensified patrols and operations in the area to curb similar incidents and restore safety to residents.
Authorities have assured the public that the crackdown on violent robbery gangs will continue until all those involved are brought to justice. Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to security agencies.
