The ruling National Resistance Movement parliamentary caucus has unanimously elected Rt. Hon. Jacob Marksons Oboth and Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa as its flagbearers for Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Uganda’s 12th Parliament. The decision reflects the party’s unity and confidence in the two leaders ahead of the new parliamentary term.
Rt. Hon. Jacob Marksons Oboth, the Member of Parliament for West Budama Central, was chosen to contest for the position of Speaker. Known for his calm leadership and experience in Parliament, Oboth is expected to bring stability and strong guidance to the House if elected.
At the same time, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, the MP for Ruhinda North and current Deputy Speaker, was endorsed for the same deputy position in the 12th Parliament. Tayebwa has gained praise for his energetic leadership style and ability to manage parliamentary debates effectively.
The announcement has excited many NRM supporters, who believe the two leaders will strengthen Parliament and support government programs. Their endorsement also shows the party’s desire to maintain continuity and teamwork in the country’s legislative leadership.
