The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has released the shortlist of successful applicants who will proceed to the next stage of the 2026 General Recruitment Exercise.
In a press release issued by the Department of Defence Public Information, the UPDF announced that the names of successful candidates are now available on the official UPDF website and at all respective City and District Headquarters across the country.
The army has encouraged all applicants who participated in the recruitment exercise to check the lists and confirm whether they have been selected for the next phase.
The UPDF thanked all Ugandans who expressed interest in joining the force but did not make it to the shortlist, describing their willingness to serve as a sign of patriotism, discipline, and commitment to the country.
The shortlisted candidates were congratulated and informed that they will proceed to Phase Three of the recruitment process, which involves physical recruitment exercises that will take place soon in their respective cities and districts.
Those selected have been advised to prepare all required documents and materials ahead of the exercise. These include a handwritten application letter with recommendations from Local Council leaders at different levels and the GISO or DISO.
Applicants will also be required to present their original National Identity Cards or National Identification Numbers, original and copies of academic documents, with graduate documents required to be certified.
Each shortlisted candidate must also provide three coloured passport-size photographs during the physical recruitment process.
The UPDF said the specific dates and schedules for Phase Three will be communicated later through its official communication channels.
The army has once again warned the public that recruitment into the UPDF is completely free and does not involve agents or middlemen. The public has been cautioned against individuals who may attempt to demand money in exchange for recruitment opportunities.
The UPDF advised anyone who encounters cases of fraud during the recruitment process to report immediately to the nearest police station, DISO office, or UPDF unit for action.
The force said the recruitment exercise is part of its continued effort to build a professional military institution based on the values of discipline, patriotism, and Pan-Africanism.
