Police in Mubende District have launched a manhunt for a 45-year-old man accused of beating his wife to death following a domestic disagreement. The incident happened on the night of 6 July 2026 in Kabulooka Village, Gogonya Parish, Kitenga Sub-county.
The suspect, identified as Byaruhanga Daniel, a peasant resident of the area, allegedly got into a disagreement with his wife, Kyarisima Merabo, aged 38, which later turned violent. Police say the argument escalated into a physical fight at around midnight, during which the woman was seriously assaulted.
According to police, after realizing that his wife’s condition had become critical, Byaruhanga rushed her to a dispensary in Kyenda Town Council for treatment before reportedly fleeing from the area.
Kyarisima later died on 7 July 2026 at around 9:00am as a result of the injuries she had sustained during the alleged domestic violence. Her death prompted authorities to open a murder case at Mubende Police Station.
A team of officers from the Mubende Police homicide squad visited the scene, where they carried out investigations, examined and documented evidence, and recorded statements from witnesses. The deceased’s body was later taken to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Police say the suspect is still at large, but investigations and efforts to arrest him are ongoing.
The police have condemned the act of domestic violence, noting that such incidents continue to claim lives and destroy families. Authorities have warned that issues such as excessive alcohol consumption, substance abuse, poverty, dishonesty, mistrust, and disrespect often contribute to conflicts that turn violent.
Police have urged couples and families to resolve disagreements peacefully, communicate openly, and seek help when facing challenges in order to prevent further loss of lives in homes.
