Tragedy at Dawn! Trailer Detaches and Kills Mother and Child in Luwero

The Traffic Police is investigating a tragic and fatal road accident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 22nd March 2026, at around 05:00 a.m. The crash happened along the busy Gulu–Kampala Highway at Ngogolo in Luwero District. What began as a normal journey quickly turned into a heartbreaking incident that has left a family grieving and a community in shock.

The accident involved a Mercedes Benz truck with registration numbers SSD 908A and SSD 909A, which was pulling a green trailer. According to preliminary findings, the truck was traveling from Gulu heading towards Kampala when disaster struck. Upon reaching Ngogolo, the rear trailer suddenly detached from the truck. The loose trailer lost control, veered off the road, and violently crashed into a nearby building.

Sadly, two lives were lost instantly. The deceased have been identified as Nandhose Annet, a 38-year-old woman, and her young daughter, Nakazi Dorine, aged just 3 years. Both died at the scene of the accident, leaving behind a grieving family. The incident also left two other victims injured, Kigwe Samuel, an adult male believed to be the father, and Kalule Jovan, a juvenile. The injured were quickly rushed to Luwero Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.

Police officers responded promptly to the scene, where they carried out a detailed examination to establish the exact cause of the crash. The bodies of the deceased were respectfully taken to Luwero Hospital Mortuary, where postmortem examinations will be conducted. Meanwhile, the vehicles involved in the accident have been impounded at Luwero Police Station as investigations continue. The Inspector of Vehicles (IOV) is expected to carry out a thorough inspection to determine whether mechanical failure contributed to the tragedy.

This heartbreaking accident serves as a strong reminder of the importance of road safety and proper vehicle maintenance. Authorities are urging all road users, especially drivers of heavy trucks, to ensure their vehicles are in good condition before setting off on any journey. The public is also encouraged to remain vigilant and strictly follow traffic rules to help prevent such painful incidents in the future.

Investigations are still ongoing, and more information will be shared as it becomes available.
