Police at Nsangi are holding four suspects in connection with a wave of phone and bag snatching incidents along the Kampala–Masaka Highway, particularly in the Busega–Kyengera swamp corridor. The arrests follow a robbery reported on 17th March 2026 by a local businesswoman from Namagoma Kisozi, Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District. She reported that her laptop bag, containing Uganda Shillings 5,340,000, two smartphones valued at UGX 1,300,000, and her National Identity Card, had been stolen.
Acting swiftly, police launched an intelligence-led operation on 20th March 2026, targeting suspected criminal hideouts in the Busega swamp. The operation resulted in the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of 20 iPhones and two Tecno phones from a makeshift structure hidden in the swamp.

The suspects have been identified as Muwesi John, 33, of Busega; Mbazanyi Saka, 25, of Nateete; Kabuka Stephen, 23, of Busega; and a 17-year-old male resident of Busega. They are currently in police custody awaiting prosecution. Authorities have indicated that efforts are ongoing to trace and return the recovered devices to their rightful owners and to apprehend additional suspects involved in these criminal activities.
Spokesperson Kawala Racheal, representing the Kampala Metropolitan Police, praised the intelligence-led operation and assured the public that police are committed to tackling crime along this busy highway corridor. Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to local authorities.
