The Kampala Metropolitan Police, working jointly with other security agencies, have arrested four suspects and recovered key exhibits linked to a shocking aggravated robbery and murder case that claimed the life of a boda boda rider in Nakawa Division. The operation, which resulted in the recovery of two motor vehicles and a stolen motorcycle, marks a significant breakthrough in investigations into the violent crime that has raised concern among residents in Kampala.
According to police, the tragic incident happened on June 30, 2026, in Prison Village, Bugolobi Parish. Officers responded to reports of an unidentified man who had been found lying along the roadside with severe injuries. The victim, who was later believed to be a boda boda rider, had suffered serious wounds to the head and back, indicating that he had been attacked using a blunt object.
Police and emergency responders rushed to the scene and attempted to assist the injured man. However, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after authorities arrived. His body was later taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination as investigators began gathering evidence to establish what had happened.
As investigations progressed, detectives discovered that the victim had not simply been attacked but had fallen victim to a carefully planned aggravated robbery. Preliminary findings revealed that the suspects allegedly used a motor vehicle to knock down the motorcycle rider before robbing him of his motorcycle. The violent nature of the attack suggested that the perpetrators were determined to ensure the victim could not resist.
Further intelligence and investigative efforts led security teams to a motor vehicle bearing registration number UA 522BG, which is believed to have been used during the commission of the crime. The vehicle became a key piece of evidence in helping detectives trace the suspects behind the robbery and murder.
On July 2, 2026, police and other security agencies carried out an operation that resulted in a major breakthrough. During the operation, officers recovered both the suspected getaway vehicle and the stolen motorcycle that had been taken from the deceased rider. The recovery of the exhibits strengthened the case against the suspects and provided investigators with valuable leads.
The operation also led to the arrest of four suspects believed to have played different roles in the crime. Police identified the suspects as Baziila Hassan, also known as Kiyinji, Kawadwa John, one adult female, and one juvenile. Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of the female suspect and the juvenile due to ongoing investigations and legal considerations.
In addition to the primary vehicle linked to the robbery, police also recovered another motor vehicle, registration number UBR 680Q. Investigators are currently examining its possible connection to the crime and whether it may have been used in supporting or facilitating the suspects’ activities.
The arrested suspects are currently being held in police custody as detectives continue with inquiries. Investigators are working to establish the specific role played by each suspect and determine whether there are additional individuals who participated in the robbery and murder.
Police believe the successful operation demonstrates the importance of cooperation between different security agencies in combating violent crime. The swift arrests and recovery of exhibits have been welcomed as a significant step towards ensuring justice for the deceased rider and his family.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police have commended all officers and security personnel who participated in the operation, noting that their coordinated efforts were instrumental in solving the case within a short period of time. Authorities have also assured the public that investigations remain active and that anyone else found to have been involved will be arrested and prosecuted.
Police spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire said investigations are ongoing and more updates will be provided as detectives continue to follow up on leads related to the case. The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by violent criminal gangs and the determination of security agencies to track down those responsible for such crimes.
Residents have meanwhile been encouraged to continue sharing information with security agencies whenever they witness suspicious activities, as public cooperation remains a crucial tool in preventing and solving serious crimes across the city.
