The Uganda Bureau of statistics (UBOS) has not only imparted statistics knowledge to its staff but all military skills to enable them to get quality statistics and data in volatile areas, Spyreports has learnt.
This came after a total of 43 UBOS Officials completed a one month military course at National Leadership Institute NALI based in Kyankwanzi.
According to instructors at NALI, the officials under went a transformative and leadership course. The course involved assembling the AK47 gun, shooting range, foot drills ,self defence ,ideology skills among others .

The UBOS graduates were passed out by the Director of NALI Col. Okei Rukogota together with UBOS Deputy Executive Director Dr Vincent Fred Ssenono, Head Communication Didacus Okoth among others.
Col Rukogota during his pass out speech, thanked UBOS for trusting them with their staff and said there was a difference from how they came and how they have left. ” We have only two types of categories that drive this Country and are Statisticians and intelligence officers because they are based on actual facts,” He says adding that Statisticians are always on the Frontline when it comes to driving the National Economy.
“Statisticians and intelligence officers do not work on assumptions but must have based evidence to help in decision making,” He reveals saying that if UBOS wants to have based evidence data,must be pro-people. “Be pro -people stasticians because this will help you get better statistics in the economic and social development,”He stressed.
He also urged the graduates to get better statistics with pay ,no pay or less pay.
“The Country needs based evidence statistics whether you are paid or not. Just accept to work,”he says adding that they should avoid foreign dominance while serving their Nation.

He says NALI in few years will become a center for excellence while students will be awarded Certificates,Diploma, Degrees and PHD. He says the Institution is soon building multimedia online content where people will access information online.
Dr Fred Ssenono who represented ED Dr Chris Mukiiza asked the graduates to emphasize team work,Time management and patriotism. “What you are saying should not remain in words but put them in action,” He sounds adding that they should maintain discipline which they learnt during the course. “Good stasticians must learn where the government is heading especially in the modern economy. Know household economy, employment levels among others,He says adding that they should also know why UBOS exist.
“We exist to produce Statistics that support National development and also to be great thinkers. Our decision making will shape the Nation,” He vowed adding they should also stay informed about the environment they live in and also obey orders from their leaders.
