Kampala Metropolitan Police, working together with other security agencies, carried out a series of intelligence-led operations on 23rd March 2026 to respond to rising crime in the city. The operations followed numerous complaints from the public about increasing cases of theft, burglary, noise pollution, gambling, and general disorder in several communities. The coordinated effort aimed to restore calm and improve safety across the metropolitan area.
The operations covered multiple divisions and resulted in the arrest of over 100 suspects. In Kira Division, police targeted Kito B Cell, Kito A Zone, and Kireku Main Zone, where 34 suspects were arrested. In Entebbe Division, particularly in Kawafu and Abaita Ababiri in Wakiso District, 46 suspects were taken into custody. Kajjansi Town Council also witnessed similar operations, leading to the arrest of 17 suspects from areas such as KKB Zone, Ssanyi Village, Dewey Village, and Kawali Village.
Meanwhile, police at Jinja Road Division conducted operations in Kilombe, arresting 7 suspects. Another 7 suspects were arrested in Namayumba during operations by Kakiri police. These operations mainly targeted criminal gangs involved in robberies, phone snatching, drug abuse, and attacks on pedestrians, especially during nighttime hours.
Police also recovered several exhibits during the operations, including suspected narcotic substances believed to be linked to criminal activities. Authorities say these items will support ongoing investigations and strengthen cases against the suspects. All those arrested are currently in custody and will face court proceedings after investigations are completed.
Kampala Metropolitan Police have assured the public that such operations will continue in order to maintain law and order. They have also urged residents to keep working closely with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities. The successful operations highlight the importance of community cooperation in building a safer environment for everyone.
